WHEELER, Mary Jane age 87 of Dayton passed away Friday, September 1, 2006 at Walnut Creek Nursing Center. She was born September 13, 1918. Mary Jane was the widow of John T. Wheeler, daughter of Sophie B. and William O’Neill Kronner of Grosse Pointe, MI (deceased) and sister of William Kronner Jr. (deceased). She is survived by sons J. Thomas Wheeler and Agnes, Michael K. Wheeler and Joanie, Lawrence R. Wheeler and Laura, daughter Maureen T. Howath and John C. and Kathryn Marie (deceased), sister Mrs. Pat Creteau and Owen C, and 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mary Jane was a graduate of St. Paul High School in Grosse Pointe, MI, and the University of Michigan, with graduate studies at Wayne State University and University of Dayton. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Zeta Phi Eta and Athena (honorary societies), A.A.U.W and numerous garden clubs, a life-time member and past president of University of Dayton Mother’s Club and Ohio University 5th Tuesday Club. Mary Jane was a charter member of St. Charles Parish where she taught sixth grade and volunteered teaching C.C.D. and Remedial Reading in 6th, 7th and 8th grades and was leader and organizer of the Great Books Program. She served on the St. Charles’ ecumenism board and for 3 years as elected member of the parish council. Mary Jane was a volunteer flower-arranger for Kettering Hospital and Sugar Plum Shoppe, volunteer worker for U.C.P. Thrift Shop and a member of St. Charles Choir and Woodhaven Swim Club. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, September 5, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering, with Father Gerald Haemmerle officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, September 4, from 2 – 5pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 North Main St., Centerville. Mary Jane loved gardening and sharing her flowers with others. In lieu of flowers for the service we ask that you plant some flowers at your home and think of her, or brighten someone else’s day with flowers as this was something she loved to do.
