Mary Louise Shaw

SHAW Mary Louise, esteemed philanthropist age 87, of Oakwood passed away Thursday at Miami Valley Hospital. Mary Louise, dedicated mother, grandmother, and recently, great-grandmother, graduated from the Northwestern University school of drama a proud member of DELTA DELTA DELTA. Mrs. Shaw, a Dayton resident her entire life, lead a life dedicated to helping those in her community, both here and in her second home in Vail, CO. With her husband Harold W. Shaw, she focused her philanthropic endeavors primarily toward the health care needs of the area, giving to the Hospice of Dayton and Miami Valley Hospital. Her contributions lead to the doubling of the Hospice’s capacity in 1996, and the Hospital’s Imaging Center and Emergency Center, both of which are named for her and her husband. In Vail, Mary Louise and Harold built the Shaw Intensive Care Unit, the Shaw Caring House, and were instrumental in the establishment and building of the Shaw Regional Cancer Center, the first such cancer treatment center in the western mountains of Colorado. Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2000 and son, Hal Shaw Jr. in 1982. Mary Louise is survived by her daughter, Sally Veitch of Colorado Springs, CO; 2 grandsons, Tay (Heather) Veitch of N. Yarmouth, ME and Robert (Kelly) Veitch of Eagle, CO; and great-granddaughter Phoebe Louis Veitch of N. Yarmouth, ME. Family will receive friends Monday from 4-6:00 PM at the Woodland Mausoleum, 118 Woodland Ave., Dayton.
