SHULTHEIS, Mary Louise Griest, age 90, of Kettering, passed away Friday, July 27, 2012.
Mary was a native Daytonian, born April 5, 1922, was a graduate of Fairview High School in 1940 and the Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She married Clarence David Shultheis November 4, 1944 at Grace Methodist Church in Dayton, OH.
She was employed at Miami Valley Hospital and then at Delaware County Hospital in Philadelphia (Drexel Hill), PA. Following the war, she returned to Dayton with Clarence and began raising their family.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women's Society, and the Volunteer Fellowship. She served as Women's Society treasurer for 4 years and president for 2 years. She was a life member of the MVH School of Nursing Association. Mary was also a member of The Dayton Women's Club and served as treasurer. As her children were growing she volunteered for many organizations in which her children participated. Mary volunteered at Cox Heart Institute and the Children's Psychiatric Hospital, where she baked, decorated, and delivered over 400 birthday cakes to the children.
In addition to volunteering, she had a passion for cooking, baking, sewing, quilting, and caring for indoor and outdoor plants. Mary enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. Her greatest love was her husband Clarence and her children and grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Clarence; parents, Farrin T. and Clara Belle Heeter Griest; and brother, John Griest. Mary is survived by her daughters, Carol Sue Shultheis and Kathleen Gay (Mark Robert) Roggenkamp; son, David Carl (Sandra Louise Grice) Shultheis; grandchildren, Timothy David Shultheis, Kristina Kathleen Roggenkamp, Marcia Kay Roggenkamp (Edward Marvin, Jr) Baynham, and Kaleb Mark Roggenkamp; and brother, Edwin Griest.
Family will greet friends from 11:00-1:00pm on Friday, August 3, 2012 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Road, Kettering, OH 45429. A Memorial Service will be held following the visitation at 1:00pm at the church. Mary will be laid to rest with Clarence at the Woodland Mausoleum in Dayton, OH.
