VANDAM, Mary K., age 91, of Kettering, passed away peacefully April 4, 2025. She was born February 18, 1934 in Portsmouth, Ohio; the daughter of the late Dewey Harvey, Sr. and Leona (Sissler) Harvey. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Vandam; daughter, Debra Sue Cassidy; brothers, Dewey Harvey, Jr., William Harvey, and Marion Kenneth Harvey; son-in-law, Danny Cassidy. Mary is survived by her children, Sharon (David) Hall, Connie (Dennis) Oroszi, Perry (Cathy) Howard, and Kathy Pennington; grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Winkelman, Ashley (Stephen) Pennington, Mark (Alison) Howard, Justin (Ryan Foster) Kyne, Stacie (Chad) Souza, Maria Pennington, and Daniel Cassidy; nine great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.
She worked as a secretary for the Daughters of the American Revolution, an essential role that showcased her commitment to honoring the nation's history. She then lent her talents as a medical transcriber for the Dartmouth Behavioral Sciences Center and Good Samaritan Hospital, where her meticulous work contributed to the well-being of countless patients. Later in life, Mary brought warmth and hospitality to her role as a hostess at Bob Evans until her retirement. Mary's greatest joys came from spending time with her family and friends. She found happiness in gatherings filled with laughter, love, and friendly competition while playing her favorite card game, Euchre. In her free time, Mary enjoyed word search puzzles. She had a remarkable ability to brighten any room with her presence; her steadfast love for family and friends was matched only by her sharp wit, often sharing jokes and riddles that brought laughter to those around her. In addition to her engaging personality, Mary was an accomplished pianist, skillfully entertaining those around her and sharing her passion for music with her loved ones.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 11:00AM at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, OH 45429. Family and friends may visit from 10:00AM until the time of service. Following the services, Mary will be laid to rest at Dayton National Cemetery by her beloved husband, Frank. Donations may be made out to Hospice of Dayton in memory of Mary.
