MENK, Melvin Arnold, "Mel" born April 29, 1928 in Munhall, Pennsylvania (Suburb of Pittsburgh, PA) to the late Edward C. Menk and Mildred L. Menk and one deceased brother, Edward W. Menk. He was married on November 21, 1953 to Betty Jane Menk (Adams). He is also survived by two children, Cheryl Lynn Dyer (Walter Floyd) of Sugarcreek Township, OH, and David Menk of Milford, OH; one granddaughter, Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Dakota and Jayden; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Stahl (Susan) of Centerville, OH, and James Adams (Linda) of Centerville, OH; a niece Melinda Raymond and grandnephew Christopher Raymond of Los Angeles, CA; a niece, Judy Bierly (James) of Centerville and niece Cindy Meyung (Dennis) of Aurora, IN, and twin nephews, Michael Stahl of Kettering and Mark Stahl (deceased). Mel graduated from Munhall High School (1946) and the University of Pittsburgh (1950) majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He also attended several Colleges and Universities for specialized education. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the Engineering Battalion of the 45th Division and also as a Guided Missile Research Assistant in the 9330th Technical Service Unit at the Army Missile Center in Huntsville, AL. He also received his Pilot license while in service. Mel served as a volunteer at many locations such as The National Museum of the United States Air Force, Southview Hospital, with SCORE (Serve Corp. of Retired Executives), and Hithergreen Center. He was a model train enthusiast and a member of the National Model Railroad Association since 1965. He loved table tennis, golf and softball. Mel was a member, and served as President and Treasurer of the Frigidaire Salaried Retirement Club and also a member of the Hithergreen Aviation Club. He worked for 27 years at Frigidaire, General Motors Corporation with 7 years as Assistant Chief Engineer. After Frigidaire closing, he was a Manager in the Advanced Engineering Staff for nine years at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren, Michigan and retired in 1988. Mel was a member of the Normandy United Methodist Church since 1990. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 11:30am-1pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd, Kettering, OH. A funeral service will follow at 1pm at the funeral home. Internment will take place in David's Cemetery Mausoleum on Far Hills Avenue in Kettering, Ohio.
