Melvin Stewart Lammers

LAMMERS, Melvin (Mel) S., age 79, of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Mel was born in San Diego in 1938 but moved to the Dayton area as a young boy. Mel was the son of Melvin B. Lammers and Dorothy Nona Stewart Lammers. After graduating from Springfield High School, Mel attended The Ohio State University as witnessed by his diploma in Engineering, and his many OSU mugs in his house and decals on his cars. (Go Bucks!). Mel spent most of his career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base working in various aspects of Computer Science before joining the Joint Strike Force Group in California as a consultant. Mel was a very intelligent, well read, man who possessed a wry sense of humor and was always ready to engage in spirted yet civil debate on a wide range of topics which in many cases he was maddeningly learned. Even when he was wrong, (and in his opinion he seldom was), he was fun to talk to and you always knew where Mel stood on a given topic. The problem was, he was usually right. Mel is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Laurel Lammers and her husband Tony Smallwood, a brother Gary from Idaho, and grandchildren Indigo (14), Michael (15) and Bella (11) who have all inherited Mels high level of intelligence, sense of humor, and confidence to speak their collective minds. Mel was immensely proud of his grandchildrens independence, intelligence, desire to learn, and participation in sports and the arts. Mel will be dearly missed by all his friends and family. We will even miss that favorite and curious hat of his. You did good Mel. Services for Mel will take place Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 East Stroop, Kettering, at 2:00 PM. If desired, friends may make memorial donations to Hospice of Dayton in Mels name.
