Michael Timothy Dempsey

DEMPSEY, Michael Timothy passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on Thursday February 27,2025. 

Mike was born on November 13, 1955, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. He attended St. Albert the Great Grade School and Archbishop Alter High School (Class of 1974). He received a golf scholarship to Edison Junior College in Fort Myers, Florida and attended Wright State University. 

Mike was employed at FC Industries, Inc. as a toolmaker for 35 years. After retirement, he enjoyed working as a part-time driver for One Lincoln Park Retirement Center in Kettering. 

From his teen through senior years, Mike was a well-known area champion golfer. He was honored to be inducted into the City of Dayton Golf Hall of Fame in 2009. He was captain of Alter High School’s men’s golf team in 1974 and lettered in ’72, ’73, and ’74. That Alter team was runner-up for the 1974 District AAA and State AAA. Mike qualified and played in several USA Amateur Public Links Championships in ’74,’86, ’90, and ’99. He held multiple titles as Club Champion for Match Play and Stroke Play at Kitty Hawk Golf Club. Other notable champion titles over the years included those with the City of Dayton, Miami Valley Golf Association and the Lexus Tournament of all Club Champions. In 2019, Mike was recognized as the City of Dayton Senior Match Play Champion. 

Mike was preceded in death by his wife Lee, parents Dick and Marie Dempsey, and an infant sister. He is survived and dearly loved by sons Kevin Michael Dempsey (Chrissy) and Travis Cope (Veronica); Grandchildren Ava and Lucas Dempsey, Hannah and Addison Cope; sister Karen Dempsey Volke (Edward); dear friends Pat and Mike Cope and Pam and John Weber; plus, several cousins, numerous friends, and golfing buddies. 

Mike’s public memorial service/visitation will be held at Routsong Funeral Home (2100 East Stroop Rd. Kettering 45429) on Monday, March 10th from 4-7 pm. His family will hold a private interment service at Calvary Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mike’s memory may be directed to the Alter High School Boys Golf Program, 940 East David Road, Kettering, Ohio 45429.
