Michael R. Eckhart

July 5, 1946 — July 23, 2024

Centerville

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Robert Eckhart, a beloved husband, father, lawyer, and Ohio State football enthusiast. Michael, born in Dayton, Ohio in 1946, peacefully departed from this world on July 23, 2024.

Throughout his life, Michael shared enduring love and companionship with his devoted spouse, Jane (Probasco) Eckhart. They recently celebrated 53 years of marriage, enveloped by a shared commitment to family, proper procedure (one of his famously recurring sayings), and laughter.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents Robert Henry Eckhart Junior and Dorothy Powell Eckhart. He is survived by wife Jane Eckhart, children; Grant (Tammy) Eckhart, Emily (Brad) Gunlock, and Julie (Todd) Lickfett and grandchildren Miles Gunlock, Grayson Eckhart, Asher Gunlock, Tobias Eckhart, and Jack Lickfett. After completing his education at The Ohio State University (later Wright State University) and the University of Cincinnati Law School, Michael embarked on a distinguished legal career that spanned over five decades. He founded his own practice and, in due course, received accolades from the Ohio Board for his significant contributions to the legal profession.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Michael was a devoted family man. He cherished holidays, with Mike taking particular joy in Holiday decorating (think Clark Griswald) and his fondness for pine-scented candles. He often said, "I'm a pine man myself." Michael found solace and joy in pursuing his passions, particularly his love for Ohio State football. His ardent support for the Buckeyes was unwavering, as he was known for recording every game since the invention of recording devices. Known for his sweet tooth, he delighted in treating his children to chocolate chip cookies for breakfast. He organized memorable family vacations and treasured time spent on the beach with his kids and grandkids.

In the wake of Michael's passing, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Mike was a man of deep Christian faith, humor, and intellect. Visitation will be held Wednesday July 31, 2024 from 4-6 pm at Routsong Funeral home Centerville chapel (81 N Main st), Funeral Service will be 10:30am Thursday August 1, 2024 at Epiphany Lutheran Church (6430 Far Hills ave, Centerville OH) with committal service to follow at David’s cemetery.
