MOODY, Nancy B., age 85, of Washington Township, passed away Saturday, July 18 at the Brighton Gardens Assisted Living facility. Born in Rome, New York, October 7, 1929, Nancy loved art, the theater, music, the ocean, academics, poetry, and most of all, people. A loving mother and devoted wife of 62 years, Nancy's exuberant, caring and gracious nature uplifted the spirits of anyone who crossed her path. Visitors to her home were treated like family. Even last minute guests were served a home cooked meal and offered a place to stay.
Nancy attended Rollins College in Winter Park Florida, then later transferred to the University of North Carolina and in 1952 received her bachelor's degree in Journalism. She went on to a distinguished thirty year career as an English, Technical Writing, and Business Communications professor at Sinclair Community College. In the early Seventies, while still teaching at Sinclair, Nancy earned her master's degree in English and a decade later undertook doctoral studies at the University of Cincinnati. She belonged to the American Business Association and was an active member of the Miami Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. She also had a knack for drawing and painting, and honed her skills by taking several art classes.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack O. Moody Jr.; son, Jack O. Moody III; brother, Stephen D. Burgess; and parents, Marjorie (Sasenbery) Burgess and Charles J. Burgess. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Moody) Chromick; son-in-law, Eric R. Chromick; grandson, Seth F. Chromick, and many beloved friends and relatives.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 PM Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, followed by a memorial service at 4 PM with Reverend Richard Venus officiating.
