Nancy C. Hobden

HOBDEN, Nancy Jeanne Cousens, age 84, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016. Nancy was born Sept. 2, 1931 in Lynn, Massachusetts and raised in nearby Saugus. She was the daughter of Earle & Josephine (Pritchard) Cousens. A tomboy in her youth, she spent summers at her grandmother's farm in Milford, New Hampshire, and aspired to be an aviator. Instead she got her degree in Home Economics at Framingham State Teacher's College in Framingham, Massachusetts. She worked as a substitute teacher for many years while raising her five children. She married her husband of 64 years, Victor Hobden, on Dec. 19, 1951. They spent their years together in many places, including Rotterdam & Glenville, New York; Hendersonville, Tennessee; N. Olmstead, Ohio; N. Little Rock, Arkansas; and most recently the Dayton, Ohio area. When not busy caring for her children, she was involved with Girl Scouts and Home Demonstration Club, and she enjoyed photography. She is survived by her husband, four children -- Debra (Doug Long) Klensch of Bellbrook, OH, Diana (Michael Barr) Hobden of Athens, OH, Laurel Hobden of Columbus, OH, and Jonathan Hobden, of Allen, TX, six grandchildren, and her brother, Allan Cousens of Chugiak, Alaska. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, David Hobden, and her brother, Malcolm Cousens. Memorial services will be held at 1:30pm on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Brookdale of Washington Township, 8130 Miller Farm Lane, Washington Township, OH and this coming summer in Freedom, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420. The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale of Washington Township for all their dedicated care of Nancy.
