Nancy Lou Cauley

Nancy Lou Cauley, died at 5:15 AM on January 27, 2015 after a long struggle with dementia. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she grew up in Quincy, Illinois, attended Ward Belmont College in Tennessee, and Northwestern University completing a BA in English literature. She married Francis Hill Cauley of Evanston, Illinois and lived there for fifteen years, before moving to Dayton, Ohio in 1966 where she lived in Oakwood for over forty years. In addition to raising four children, Nancy worked outside the home as an editor for the Journal of the American Medical Association in Chicago, and as owner of an antique business in Dayton. In mid-life she developed a seizure disorder and went back to school at the University of Dayton to learn more about epilepsy. She served on the board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Western Ohio and as its chair for a number of years. Additional volunteer work included a time at the Little Exchange in Oakwood, and Miami Valley Hospital. Nancy was proud of her good mind (she was a member of MENSA), her photography, her knowledge of glass and her world travels, especially her multiple trips to Saudi Arabia. She had a wonderfully weird sense of humor, compassion for the world, a voracious appetite for reading and an appreciation of all things beautiful, especially in nature. She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard Tipton Fuller and Helen Taylor; her son, Francis Hill Cauley Jr.; and her husband, Francis Hill Cauley. She is survived by her children, Katherine Cauley and her partner, Pat Newcomb, Patrick Cauley and his wife, Susan, and Michael Cauley and his wife, Dana, and her grandchildren, Ian and Ryan Cauley. The family would like to thank the Suites of Walnut Creek and Hospice of Dayton who provided excellent care in the last year of her life. We will gather on Sunday, February 8, 2015 from 1:00-4:00PM at, Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering, OH for food and drink and to remember Nancy.
