Nancy Ruth Byrd

Byrd, Nancy Ruth, age 85, of Sterling House in Washington Twp. passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013. She was born on March 31, 1928 in Hazard, KY. Nancy was the daughter of the late Troy and Thelma (Lykins) Baker. She worked as a nurse and caregiver and loved taking care of babies in the nursery. Nancy's primary focus in life was her family. She also enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, crossword puzzles and playing computer games. Nancy was a member of Petry Memorial Baptist Church in Hazard, KY. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, William Garlen Byrd Sr. and her sister Marguerite Smith. Nancy is survived by her daughter Thelma McLaughlin (Allan) of Springboro, OH; sons, William Garlen Byrd Jr. (Vickie) of Overland Park, KS, and Darrell Byrd (Vicky) of Jacksonville, NC; seven grandsons, Jonathan Byrd, Joshua Byrd, Jeremy Byrd, Jacob McLaughlin, Cody Holliday, Logan Holliday and James Byrd; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Byrd; sister-in-law and dear friend, Lela Byrd. The family will receive friends at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 1:00-2:00pm with a memorial service beginning at 2:00pm. Nancy's cremated remains will be placed with her husband Garlen at Englewood Cemetery in their beloved home of Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420 or the Alzheimer's Association, 31 W. Whipp Rd., Centerville, OH 45459.
