Nicholas E. Davis

Davis, Nicholas E. "Nick" age 85, of Oakwood, passed away peacefully at Hospice of Dayton on Friday, October 22, 2010 surrounded by his friends and family. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and daughter Sophia. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bea, son Nicholas, Jr. (Mary), daughter Diana, granddaughters Brooke and Sophia; Brother Pete (Irene), sister Mary Helen McDonald (John), sister Chris Vradelis (Ted); nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Nick was born in 1925 and graduated from Oakwood High School class of 1943. He attended The University of Michigan before being appointed to The United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. Before his retirement from the Navy he served active duty in the Korean War. He returned to Dayton and was employed by Chrysler Airtemp for over 20 years during which he received his MBA from Xavier University. Upon his retirement from Chrysler he became director of Continuing Education for Wright State University at the Kettering Center. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, serving as President of the parish council and co-chairman of the Greek Festival for many years. He and his wife Bea traveled the world as members of the Friendship Force and Elderhostel where they established many lifelong relationships. Nick was an avid runner and enjoyed participating in the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot. The family wishes to thank the wonderful family and friends for their loving support throughout his long struggle with cancer with special thanks to the staff at Hospice of Dayton. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering with Trisagion prayers at 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 27th at 10:00am at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 500 Belmonte Park North, Dayton, Father Mark Emroll officiating. Contributions may be made to the Wright State University Retirees Association Nick Davis Scholarship fund or the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
