It is with great respect and heartfelt reflection that we announce the passing of Nigel John Campbell Brooke, aged 82, who transitioned from this life on December 6, 2024, in Centerville, Ohio. Born in Bournemouth, England, Nigel was the beloved son of Margaret Brooke and John Locke, who bravely served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. Following the war and in pursuit of a new life, Margaret immigrated to America as an English War Bride with young Nigel by her side. Nigel graduated from Oceanside High School in New York, where he met the love of his life, Elizabeth Jane Brooke, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage filled with love and companionship. After attending Paul Smith’s College of Forestry, he honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964. Upon his discharge, Nigel embarked on a fulfilling career, first with NCR in New York, before moving his family to Ohio in 1980 to further his career with NCR, ultimately retiring in 1995. Post-retirement, he continued to make an impact through his work with RAYDON and the Department of Homeland Security. Nigel’s legacy is rich with love for his family and an unwavering spirit that touched everyone he encountered. He reveled in the joy of golf, shared a fondness for gorillas, savored the ocean’s embrace and cherished the aroma of freshly cut lawns. His affection extended to all his beloved dogs, grand-dogs, and every horse he met, signifying a life lived with profound warmth and passion. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Elizabeth; his mother, Margaret; and his adoptive father, Ivan Brooke. Nigel leaves behind a legacy of love through his son, Matthew Brooke; daughter, Elizabeth Corrigan; twin sisters, Elizabeth and Gayle Aronowitz; brother, Richard Brooke; and cherished grandchildren, affectionately known as his “Goonies”: Courtney Brooke, Noah and Ethan Corrigan, and Nick and Hayden Brooke. Our family will gather to honor and celebrate Nigel’s remarkable life from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024, at Routsong Funeral Home, located at 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, Ohio. We invite family and friends to join us in sharing stories and memories that embody the essence of Nigel’s spirit—respect, honor, and accountability. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Hospice of Dayton and the Greater Dayton Humane Society, as a testament to the compassion and kindness that Nigel embodied throughout his life. We extend our deepest gratitude to the angels of light, hope, and comfort at Hospice of Dayton, whose care provided Nigel and his family with great respect during his final days. Nigel’s vibrant spirit will be dearly missed, yet he will forever remain in our hearts, guiding and inspiring us as we continue to honor the love he shared so fiercely.
