SCHAEFER, Norman M, age 94 of Dayton, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2010.
Norman was born on February 29, 1916 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Aloysius M. and Marie (Barr) Schaefer, and the grandson of Michael and Euphrosina (Burkmeier) Schaefer. He graduated from Steele High School in Dayton and Miami University in Oxford where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Norman served under General McArthur as an Amphibious Engineer in the Pacific Theatre and was stationed in New Guinea and other battle sites in the South Pacific during World War II, and was selected to observe the surrender of the Japanese on the USS Missouri.
On May 17, 1947, he married R. Lucille Moore at St. Mary�s Catholic Church in Piqua, OH. He and Lucy loved to travel and had visited more than 175 countries as well as virtually all of the fifty United States.
Norman worked as an Account Rep in Advertising for Geyer Advertising and later for Kircher, Helton and Collette Advertising. He was a member of the Dayton Racquet Club and the Dayton Bicycle Club.
Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Herman. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lucy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 10:00AM at Emmanuel Catholic Church, 149 Franklin St. Dayton, OH. There will be no public visitation. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
