Byham, Olga Charlotte Marie, age 92, of Centerville passed away at Kettering Hospital on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013. Born in Orange, France, on Nov. 25, 1920, Olga received training in Avignon, France, becoming a professional seamstress and pattern maker. By age 24, she had opened her own business called Olga's Couture training five apprentices in couturiere. Olga met Fred C. Byham, an army engineer during WWII stationed in Le Pontet, France. The two married on September 1, 1945, in Sorgues, France. Olga came to the United States as a French war bride in June 1946 aboard the USS America and became a U.S. citizen shortly thereafter. For 47 years of marriage, Olga was a homemaker par excellence. In addition to her esteemed sewing skills, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, floral arranging, and world traveling. Always health conscious, Olga was an active member of TOPS for nearly 50 years. Toward the end of her life, she was a voracious reader of biographies. All who were fortunate to know Olga were charmed by her gracious and sparkling personality, her elegant style and quick wit, and her gentle, loving spirit. Olga, a believer in Jesus Christ, passed peacefully into His arms surrounded by her family from Pennsylvania and her neighbor and friend E.T. Olga was preceded in death by her husband Fred, her parents Eugenie Mourizand and Louis Faraud, and four brothers. "Aunt Olga" will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews here in the States and in France. For the last ten months of her life, Olga was an extremely happy resident of Sterling House of Washington Township. Her family wishes to thank the staff at Sterling House for enriching Olga's life with boundless love, care, and fun. In addition, the family is grateful for the tender compassionate care given to Olga by the nurses at Kettering Hospital's Trauma Unit and CCU. The family will receive friends at the Routsong Funeral Home in Centerville on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at 10 am with the service to follow at 11 am with Pastor Claire Megles officiating. Interment will be at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.routsong.com.
