PORTER, Patricia Higdon, age 89, of Centerville, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013.
Patricia was born to the late Paul and Louise Higdon on July 27, 1924 in New Albany, IN. Patricia grew up in Norwood, a suburb of Cincinnati, graduating from Norwood High School in 1942.
She then worked for a couple of years and attended the University of Cincinnati where she met and married Walter Porter. They moved to Dayton in 1949, where she has resided ever since. In 1979, Patricia obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees from Wright State University.
She was a volunteer docent at the Dayton Art Institute for many years, a member of the League of Women Voters, and an elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Walter, and their two sons, Scott P. (Carol) Porter and David Porter; two grandchildren, Kelly D. (Dean) Wilson and Ryan N. (Lauren) Porter, and three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Marian, and Corbin. She is also survived by a beloved nephew, Sam (Vicki) Tuten.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton, at 11:00am on Friday, November 1, 2013, with a reception to follow in the church's social hall.
In lieu of flowers, due to Patricia's sympathy for the mentally ill, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Eastway Corporation, 600 Wayne Ave., Dayton, OH 45410.
