Patricia Jane Howell

HOWELL, Patricia Jane (nee Duffy), 81, of Oakwood. Passed away peacefully on February 9th, at Hospice of Dayton after an extended illness, and surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Pat was the daughter of Charles and Hazel Duffy. Orphaned at age 9, Pat and her younger brother, James, moved to Centerville, Indiana and were raised by her Aunt and Uncle, George and Cary Early. Pat attended Indiana University and studied fashion design, and worked summers and holidays at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in the waning days of World War II. She moved to Dayton permanently in 1946, worked at WPAFB full time in the Aero-Med Lab, and eventually became secretary to the Commanding General of the base when she married in 1949. After raising a family, she was a successful real estate agent until 1980. She co-founded and became President of Howell Rescue Systems until her retirement in 1990. Over the years Pat was an active member in numerous organizations, including the Evening Hours Garden Club, Progressive Mothers Club, the Dayton Country Club, Oakwood Woman’s Kiwanis and the Dayton Woman’s Club. Despite an active schedule, she always found time to be a Sunday School teacher, homeroom mother, Cub Scout Den Mother and many volunteer interests she could help out with. In addition to her parents and aunt and uncle she was preceded in death by her brother James Duffy, and an infant son. Pat is survived by her 3 sons, Dan L., of Cincinnati and Dayton, James Lee (Pam) of Washington Township, and Todd (Kim) of Oakwood; and grandchildren Shelby, Spencer and Nathan. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 am at the Christ United Methodist Church 3440 Shroyer Rd. Kettering, Ohio. Burial in David’s cemetery. Family will receive friends from Tuesday from 4-7:00 pm at the Routsong Funeral Home 2100 East Stroop Rd. @ Woodman in Kettering. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd., Kettering, OH 45429, which Pat was a charter member of.
