De Naples, Patrick Louis, age 98, passed away peacefully at the Brookdale Senior Living facility in Oakwood, Ohio, on June 14, 2024. The son of Pasquali and Fanny De Naples, Pat was born in Passaic, New Jersey, on January 22, 1926.
He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and became a Naval aviator. He remained in the Selected Reserve for 28 years and retired as a full Commander in 1971.
Pat graduated as a Civil Engineer from The Ohio State University in 1953. He met his wife there and they were married for 72 years, living first in New Jersey and later in Kettering and Waynesville, Ohio. He was employed with the Portland Cement Association for several years, and later became one of the principals in the Shaw, Weiss, & De Naples engineering firm, retiring in 1986.
His main interests were flying and Ohio State football. He was an active member of the Soaring Society of Dayton and the Caesar Creek Soaring Club, serving for many years as treasurer and as a tow pilot, and competed in many soaring contests throughout the country. He was also an avid Ohio State University fan and had season tickets to all of the OSU home football games, attending nearly every home game and many away games for over 50 years.
Pat was pre-deceased by his parents; two sisters, Jeanette Biggio and Delores Terranova; a brother, Thomas De Naples; and one son, Daniel De Naples. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary (Hasbrouck); daughters Diane Jensen (David) and Beth De Naples; two sons, John (Meredith) and Frederick; four grandchildren, Jonathon Johnson, Holly Ward, Linda Amato (Michael) and Gina Sando (John); and four great-grandchildren, Kendall and Jackson Labensky and William and Daniel Amato; one sister, Kathleen Magaraci; and one daughter-in-law, Karen De Naples.
Services for Pat will be held privately with the family in November 2024. Donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton or to one’s favorite charity.
