DOTY, Paul Robert age 79, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Kettering Medical Center. Survived by his loving wife, Shirley; son Douglas, his wife Deborah and their two children, Olivia and Megan of Mancos, CO; son, Michael with Fernando Costa of Plano, TX; daughter, Susan and her husband, Steven Carlson, and their children, Scott, Alana, and Henry of St. Charles, IL. Also brothers, W. Herbert and wife Marjorie and David and wife Mary of Minneapolis, MN; half-brother, Douglas and his wife LuAnn of Minneapolis; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Dorris Hensley of Germantown, OH and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A disabled veteran in WWII, he retired after 35 years of civilian service as systems engineering manager at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. During that time, he received many awards for outstanding service including the Meritorious Service Award and the Decoration for Exceptional Service. He was a part-time employee of AAA Miami Valley, as a tour escort; a volunteer for 22 years at Kettering Memorial Hospital also a volunteer at Franciscan at St. Leonards and active in Kettering Kiwanis, Kettering Sister Cities, Memorial Hall Ushers, and the Cincinnati Colony of Mayflower Descendants. He had been an active member of Christ United Methodist Church where he had sung in the choir over 47 years as well as serving on the Board of Trustees and many committees and commissions. He was a graduate of the University of Minnesota, George Washington University and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He was also active in the Experiment in International Living, Dayton Council of World Affairs and the AFS Student Exchange programs. He leaves many friends in other countries. Of special note is Rainer Hofmann of Aachen, Germany, who lived with the Dotys while attending Fairmont High School in 1970-71 in the AFS Program and who with his wife, Behnoush, remains a very close friend of the family. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at 1:30 PM at Christ United Methodist Church, 3440 Shroyer Rd., Kettering with Rev. Wayne Botkin officiating. Burial in Glen Haven Cemetery, New Carlisle. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-8:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church 3440 Shroyer Rd., Kettering, OH 45429. Condolences may be sent to the family via the website at www.routsong.com.
