Paul Skrovanek

February 14, 1918 — March 9, 2005

SKROVANEK, Paul of Centerville age, 87, passed away March 9, 2005 at Lincoln Park Manor, Kettering. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anna Skrovanek; his first wife, Ellen Roberts Skrovanek; and two sisters, Mary O’Connor and Velma Hull. Paul is survived by his wife, Shirley Jerles Skrovanek; sister, Ann Rakaas of Binghamton, NY; step-daughter, Paula Barnett and her husband, David Barnett, San Diego, CA; 2 step-grandsons, Brian Barnett, Houston, TX and Robert Barnett, Dallas, TX; niece, Nancy Mead and husband David, Fredericksburg, VA; great-niece Major Diane Humerick and family; and great-nephew, Mark Mead and family of Stafford, VA. Paul served in the United States Army during WWII as a Surgical Technician. He was a member of the famous 77th Infantry Division affectionately called “The Old Buzzards”. He served in Hawaii, Leyte, Guam, Okinawa and Japan and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds in action. After the war, he was employed by the Atomic Energy Commission in Schenectady, NY, then by Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY. Paul then transferred to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base where he was a Logistics Management Specialist in AFLC. He retired in 1978 after 39 years of service. Paul was a member of the First Prebyterian Church in Fairborn, and a member of F&AM, Utica, NY. Funeral services will be held, Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 1:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., Centerville. Family will receive friends one hour before the funeral from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the funeral home, with Dr. William Anderson officiating. Services also will be held in Utica, NY. Burial in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkwood, NY. A special thanks to his devoted aide, Clarence E. Bailey, Lincoln Park Manor Nursing Home, and Hospice of Dayton for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Heart Association, Hospice of Dayton, or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family via the website at www.routsong.com.
