Pearl Duckett

November 17, 1928 — October 7, 2015

DUCKETT, Pearl, age 86, of Huber Heights, passed away on October 7, 2015. She was born on November 17, 1928 in Monroe County, TN to the late Minnie and Benjamin Cole. Pearl was raised in the Tellico Plains, TN area and it was there that she met her love, James C. "Jim" Duckett. Following their marriage on February 4, 1947, Pearl and Jim moved to the Dayton area and finally settled in Huber Heights. Pearl took great pride in being a homemaker and also in her vegetable garden that she and Jim would lay every year. She spent most of the summers tending to her garden and canning the vegetables it produced. Pearl was known for so many signature dishes and always had fresh cookies baked whenever she expected visitors, including a bag for them to take home. Pearl hosted every thanksgiving and Christmas and was the happiest when she was surrounded by her large family. Watching her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren grow gave her much joy. In 2000, Pearl and Jim joined Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Huber Heights and attended together every Sunday until Jim passed away of Alzheimer' Disease on October 27, 2003. Pearl dedicated her life to caring for Jim while he battled Alzheimer's. With the help of her daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Steve, she was able to keep him comfortable and at home until his passing. The favor was returned back to Pearl during the past few months, and she was able to pass away in the place she was most comfortable, her home. On the evening of October 7th, Pearl was finally reunited in heaven with her love, Jim, and together we can feel them both smiling down on us. Pearl was the beacon of light for her family and will be deeply missed by all who had met her. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, and their first born infant son, Carson; brother, Curtis Cole; sister, Opal Duckett-Schultz; son-in-law, Mike Pohl; and her dear friend and in-law, Donna Pulliam. She is survived by her devoted children, Jerry (Pam) Duckett of Wooster, OH, Trish (Russ) James of Zanesville, OH, Mike (Barb) Duckett of Hawaii, and Pam (Steve) Mowen of Huber Heights, OH. She was the beloved "Mamaw" to 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and one more great-grandson on the way. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruby Roberts and Ruth Daughtry; her extended Tennessee family which include many in-law's, nieces, and nephews; and her loving church family. The family will greet friends from 2-4pm on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Blessed Hope Baptist Church, 4461 Fishburg Rd., Huber Heights, OH 45424 with Pastor Doug Tallman officiating. Burial will be in New Carlisle Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Hope Baptist Church or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420. If you do wish to send flowers, the family requests that Bill's Enchanted Florist, www.billsenchantedflorist.com, be used. The family would like to thank the at-home nurses and caretakers of Hospice of Dayton for their care and compassion, and also to her family members who took time to come visit and help with Mamaw during her last few months.
