Regina C. Tuholsky

March 8, 1916 — May 7, 2013

TUHOLSKY, Regina C. (Babci), died peacefully in her sleep on the morning of May 7, 2013, two months after celebrating her 97th birthday. Regina touched everyone she met with her warmth, generosity of spirit, and determination. She inspired people of all ages. Whoever knew her wanted to be like her. Regina was born in Simpson, PA, on March 8, 1916, to Frank & Mary Molinski. She was the apple of her father's eye. She graduated from high school at age 16, went away to nurse's training and married Joseph M. Tuholsky on June 8, 1937. They celebrated 58 years together. Regina led scout troops, directed day camps, and volunteered with the Red Cross and the League of Women Voters. As her children grew, she worked for an orthodontist and was active in a homemaker's club, a quilting group, and a book club. The daughter of a coal miner and wife of a coal miner, she was fiercely proud of her Polish heritage, and delighted in sharing the Polish language, songs and stories with special people in her life. Her love of needlework began with her learning embroidery at age 8 and continued through her life as she hand-stitched quilts for each grandchild. She was an active member of the Altar Guild at Grace Episcopal Church in Paducah, KY. The knitting group she started at One Lincoln Park in Kettering has donated thousands of handmade items to local organizations. She had a green thumb in the garden, and cooked everything from Polish pierogi to homemade salsa. She attributed her happy and healthy life to keeping her mind and body busy. A label she placed on her needlework read: "When I give to you what I make with my hands, I share my heart." She once remarked, "That says everything there is to say about me." She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Tuholsky; grandson, Ray Tuholsky, Jr. & brother, Alexander Molinski. She is survived by her loving family, who was the heart and soul of her existence. Her great-grandchildren were the light of her life. Survivors include daughter, Christine Tuholsky Hartung, and son-in-law, William, her faithful & loving caregivers and window to the world these past years; granddaughter, Ann Hartung Farley & Greg, & Great-granddaughter Lauren (MD); grandson, Mike Hartung & Amber, & Great-grandson Austin (IN); son, Ray Tuholsky & Evonne (MN); granddaughter, Rene Madsen (MN); son, Joseph Tuholsky, Jr. & Sue (PA). Grandchildren, Mark Tuholsky (MD), Jennifer Minnick (TN), Amy Pesci & Great-grandchildren Megan & Louie (PA); her sisters, Bernadette Farber (PA), Hedwig Derwinski (PA), and Joanne Mattise (PA), and special nieces and nephews.
