SCHULLER, Rev. Dr. David S., age 75, of Dayton, died Sunday, April 7, after a brief illness. Born June 8, 1926, in Cleveland, Ohio, he spent a lifetime involved in theological education. A 1945 graduate of Concordia Collegiate Institute in Bronxville, N.Y., he attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, where he received his Master of Sacred Theology degree in 1951 and Doctor of Divinity degree in 1968. In the intervening years, he earned an M.A. (1955) and Ph.D. (1961) from St. Louis University. He also studied at Columbia University in New York, Washington University in St. Louis and the Center for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Michigan. He joined the faculty of Concordia Seminary in 1955 and taught there until 1967. He took a leave in 1964-65 to serve as Director of Urban Seminars for the National Council of Churches in New York. He joined the Association of Theological Schools as associate director in 1967 and retired in 1988 to become a consultant. Dr. Schuller, the author of eight books and numerous publications, was active as a speaker and lecturer. In recent years, he served as president of the board of Lutheran Social Services of Miami Valley, the Dayton Bach Society and the Parish Resource Center. In 1950 he married Modelle Lucas in St. Louis. The couple has three children: Deborah (Hew Elcock), Constance, and Christopher (Bettina). Other survivors include four grandchildren, Simon and Laura Elcock of Toronto and Elizabeth and Sophia Schuller of Cambridge, MA.; brother Richard (Dorothy) of Goldendale, WA., sister Betty Behrendt of Cleveland, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Ave. at Irving, Tuesday evening from 5-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Church in Oakwood followed by burial at David's Cemetery.
