Reverend Thomas J. Ballman died at St. Leonard in Centerville, Ohio on Sunday, March 1, 2009. He was born on July 16, 1914 in Dayton, Ohio. He completed his preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary and studied theology at Mount St. Mary's Seminary of the West. He was ordained on April 17, 1943 by Archbishop John T. McNicholas at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Norwood, Ohio. Father Ballman received his first assignment on May 6, 1943, as Assistant Pastor of St. Martin of Tours Parish in Cheviot, Ohio. In September 1948, he was appointed Assistant Pastor of Emmanuel Parish, Dayton, Ohio and Chaplain of Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. From August 1951 through July 1959, Father Ballman served as Chaplain of Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. He served as Assistant Pastor of St. Veronica Parish in Hamilton, Ohio from July 1959 through August 1961 while teaching at Hamilton Catholic High School. In August 1961, he began as Pastor of Holy Name Parish in Trenton, Ohio and Administrator of St. Lawrence Mission in New Miami, Ohio. In August 1966, he became Pastor of Our Lady of Good Hope Parish in Miamisburg, Ohio. In July 1985, Father Ballman became Associate Pastor of St. Anthony Parish in Dayton. He served there until his retirement. Reception of the Body will be Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 9:30 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, 830 Bowen Street, Dayton, 45410. Celebrant: Reverend David Brinkmoeller; Homilist: Reverend Louis Hohlmayer. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Church, Dayton. Celebrant: Most Reverend Daniel E. Pilarczyk; Homilist: Reverend Thomas Shearer. Burial will take place immediately following the Funeral Mass, in Calvary Cemetery, Calvary and South Dixie Avenues, Dayton. Celebrant: Reverend David Brinkmoeller. Father Ballman was a very dedicated priest who celebrated almost 66 years as a priest faithfully serving God's people. He loved life, golf and charitable causes.
