Richard Andrew Koerner

age 83, of Kettering, died Thursday, July 26, 2001. He attended the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of FOP Post #44 and the American Legion #598. He was a 1936 graduate of Chaminade High School, where he lettered in football and track. After high school, he played professional football for the Dayton Bulldogs and he was a Golden Glove Boxing Champion, being inducted into the Dayton Boxers Association Hall of Fame in 1989. Richard was a Marine veteran of WWII, serving in the Pacific as an Aviation Radio Operator. Richard was a graduate of the Dayton Police Academy, class of February, 1946, retiring in January, 1971 after 25 years of service. He then became a Security Guard for Third National Bank from 1971-73, Sinclair Community College from 1973-78, and Mead Corporation from 1979-86. Richard also served the Dayton community as a Scout leader from 1956-64. Richard was preceded in death by his brother, Karl, also a Dayton Police Officer and his sister, Betty. He is survived by his wife, Mary; 2 sons, William and his wife, Janice Koerner of Marion, TX and Ronald and his wife, Cynthia Koerner of Clayton; 2 daughters, Karen Koerner of Moriarty, NM and Patricia Koerner of Englewood; 4 grandchildren, John, Christopher, Matt and Jen; 5 great grandchildren; a stepson, Robert and his wife, Carol Morter of Kettering; a stepdaughter, Nancy Willis of Kettering; 4 step-grandchildren, Kim, Chuck, Cindy and Rod; 4 step-great grandchildren; 3 cousins, Kay McEldowny, Pat Hennessey and Bill James; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday in the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering, with Pastor Willliam Schwochow officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, OH.
