Richard G. Marshall

MARSHALL, Richard G., 'Dick', age 87, born Oct. 22, 1923, passed away Monday, November 29, 2010. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly, an infant son Timothy, parents Carrie and George Marshall; a brother Robert and sister Carol. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 yrs. Miriam (nee Watts); daughter Michele (Michael) Brown; daughter Linda (Jerry) Hoke; son Robert; five grandchildren, Michael (Tiffany), Matt & Mark Brown, Lauren and Zachary Hoke and many nieces and nephews. Dick graduated from Chaminade High School, Class of '41, attended the University of Dayton, Ohio Wesleyan University where he received his Naval Commission. Dick graduated from Michigan State with a degree in Chemistry. He played football and baseball in college. Dick was drafted by the New York Yankees, playing minor league baseball in 1948. He served our country as a Naval Officer in the South Pacific during WWII, stationed in Okinawa. Dick was recalled to active duty during the Korean Conflict and completed his military career in 1953. He was a sales representative for M & T Chemicals for 30 years, retiring in 1987. Dick was a member of VFW Post #9927 and American Legion Post #598. He and 'Mim' enjoyed traveling, fishing, including his AFTA fishing group and golf with the Inland retirees. In his spare time he enjoyed coaching Little League Baseball at Irelan Field in Kettering. He and 'Mim' enjoyed attending their grandchildren's sports activities and band concerts. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:30AM at St. Charles Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering. Family will receive friends at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering on Friday, December 3 from 4:00-7:00PM. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent Hotel, 120 W. Apple St., Dayton OH 45402 or Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton OH 45420.
