HALLBECK, Richard “Rick,” age 57, of Centerville, passed away December 20, 2024. He was born on June 17, 1967 in Orlando, Florida; the son of the late Richard Hallbeck, Sr. and Janet (Shaw) Hallbeck. Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Laurie; children, Andrew and Jenna; sisters, Ruann (Bobby) Nolan, Becky (David) Guggenheim, and Rita Hallbeck; nieces and nephews, Rip (Diana) Nolan, Kelsie (Sean) Hennessy, Beth (Michael) Buckner, Jonathan (Blair) Guggenheim, Gretchen (Steve) Bache, Laura Wolf, Ian Wolf, Zach (Alexis) Davies, Ben (Kelsey) Davies, and Madi Davies; mother-in-law, Nancy Davies; sister-in-law, Jill Davies; brother-in-law, Kevin (Traci) Davies; his walking companion, Hudson; and numerous extended family members and friends. 

Rick graduated from Enka High School in Candler, North Carolina in 1985. He then attended North Carolina State University where he received his Bachelor’s in Mathematics. During college, he was in ROTC and afterwards, commissioned to be an Officer in the United States’ Air Force. While serving, he earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Wright State University. Rick was stationed at bases throughout the United States including Colorado, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, California, Virginia, and Ohio as well as serving during the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom. While stationed at the Raven Rock Base in Pennsylvania, he met the love of his life, Laurie. Rick served for 20 years retiring at the rank of Major and an additional 12 years as a Civilian. After retiring, Rick worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as a Civilian Program Manager working on numerous projects including Air Force One and F-16’s. In his free time, he enjoyed being outdoors, mountain biking and climbing, traveling, hiking, riding his motorcycle, playing tennis, reading, and cooking for his family. Rick kept his family and life organized with his skill in creating spreadsheets. The most important thing in his life was his family, especially traveling with his wife and attending his children’s various activities. 

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 4:00PM at Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main Street, Centerville, OH 45459. Family and friends may visit from 3:00PM until the time of service. Air Force Military Honors will be rendered during the time of service to honor Rick. He will be laid to rest at the Dayton National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Dayton VA in memory of Rick.
