Hodapp, Richard S., age 65 of Kettering, OH passed peacefully on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at his residence. Rick, the son of Ruey F. and Carol R. Hodapp, was born in Dayton, OH. He graduated from Meadowdale High School in 1977 and played the baritone in their marching band. Rick started his career in Houston, TX, as a crewman on oil exploration vessels that traveled throughout the Atlantic Ocean. Upon his return to Dayton, he began working for Requarth Lumber where he discovered his passion for carpentry, which he continued throughout his life. Rick’s long career in carpentry and construction management included stints with self-employment and many years at RL Fender, before he retired from Danis Construction in 2021. Rick managed many special projects in the Dayton area, most notably improvements at Carillon Park, University of Dayton and Sinclair Community College. He was especially proud of “The Lookout” at Woodland Cemetery, which provides visitors with a picturesque view of downtown Dayton.
Rick’s love for the outdoors began in 1970 when he joined Boy Scout Troop 58 near Belle Haven Elementary School. He had many great adventures exploring the local scout camps, Cricket Holler and Woodland Trails. His father would take Rick and his brother hunting and fishing with his sister and mother in tow. At a young age, Rick and his family traveled all across the USA, twice by Winnebago motorhome. As an adult, his love to travel continued; he was especially fond of visiting Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. He loved his annual hunting trips to southern Ohio and his week at “Deer Camp” was always a highlight of the hunting season. Rick volunteered as an NRA instructor, helping countless individuals qualify for their concealed carry (CCW) certification. After Rick’s retirement, Rick was often found at Majestic Springs GC and other local golfing venues. Every year, he would organize a three day golf trip to Perry Park, KY, to enjoy with his friends.
Rick, aka “No Tag”, and Donna enjoyed traveling the county together with their motorcycle enthusiast friends, visiting almost every state. They attended the Rolling Thunder and Sturgis Motorcycle Rallies meeting cyclists from all across our magnificent country. Together, they experienced many wonderful vacations most notably St. Maarten, Hawaii and Portugal this last September.
Rick’s kind, straightforward, and adventurous personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol (Coons) Hodapp. He is survived by his wife Donna Rosengarten; father, Ruey (Ann Callin) Hodapp Jr.; brother, Larry (Susan) Hodapp; sister, Jane Hodapp; Donna’s son, Joshua (Meghan) Rosengarten; several nieces and nephews; two grandsons and other extended family and friends.
