Richard Marshall

April 15, 1933 — November 10, 2017

MARSHALL, Richard D., passed away on November 10, 2017. Richard, always known as Dick, was born on April 15, 1933 to the late Ernest and Doris (Weeks) Marshall in Jackson, MI. He graduated from Defiance High School and attended Defiance College. As a proud veteran, serving on the USS Iowa for the United States Navy from 1952-1956 was a hallmark feature of Dicks life, and he and his Navy buddies still met regularly. Dick was last reunited with his beloved USS Iowa on a visit in 2013, as he was piped aboard with honors. Following the Navy and college, Dick married his high school sweetheart, Gracie, and had three children. Dick had a long career in sales for Mobil Chemical Company and Potash Company of America, before founding Quellz Products, Inc. An avid reader and lifelong learner, Dick was passionate about education and dedicated his efforts not only to his own childrens schooling, but also to the whole community. Dick was responsible for the successful passage of multiple bond levies for the Centerville School System, resulting in funding the building of Centerville High School, the football field and athletic complex, and Village South Kindergarten complex. Dick went on to serve on the Centerville School Board for 16 years; his children proudly received their high school diplomas signed by their father. Richard will be memoralized by his family: Grace (Steele) Marshall; children - Kim Adamle (Mike Adamle), Kent Marshall (Bruce McGee), Kelli Marshall Pope, Pam Marshall; grandchildren - Bradley Self (Kimiko Sasaki), Courtney Self (Stephen Cyr), Svetlana Adamle, Alexandra Adamle, Kelsey Marshall (Byron Hughes), Kirk Marshall, Morgan McGee, Michael Pope; great-grandchildren - Makayla, Steele, and Angelina Self. Dick also stayed close to family relatives in Michigan. Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 1 at 5:30pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E Stroop Rd., Kettering, Ohio 45429. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USS Iowa at www.pacificbattleship.com, and the Marshall family thanks you in advance for commemorating our fathers legacy.
