HALE, Richard Phillips II "Dick", age 83, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2012.
He was born on February 6, 1929 to the late Theodore Richard Hale and Kathryn Castle Hale. Dick attended Bayonne High School in Bayonne, NJ then later went to achieve his Bachelors of Science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. While attending Rutgers he was a member and secretary of the Epsilon Chapter of Delta Phi Fraternity.
Dick served his country in the United States Army from 1946-1947 and was stationed in Leghorn, Italy as a V.I.P Driver. On June 20, 1953, He married his sweetheart Claire Jacqueline "Jackie" Duberson in Hammonton, NJ.
Dick worked as a Contract Engineer for Allied Chemical and Dye Corporation, a manager for Sears, National Sales Manager for Red Lion Table Company, and then was self-employed as a Manufacturer's Representative for a high quality furniture manufacturer.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Middletown. Dick was an Ordained Elder and served as the Chairman of Building Committee for Educational Building of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Cherry Hill, NJ. He also belonged to Lodge 143 F&AM, the Ancient Scottish Rite, Zembo Shrine, and the American Legion.
Dick's life long interest in swimming included participation on high school and Rutgers University swim teams, and coached YMCA swim teams. He served as President of the Wexford Leas Swim Club in Cherry Hill, NJ where he was known as the "Voice of the Wexford Whales", announcing the Tri-County Swimming Association swim meets over the years. Dick competed in the Associations Masters Meets, winning the 200 meter freestyle event for ten consecutive years. He also holds the record for the "Plunge for Distance" event.
Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years Jacki, children Susan Grace Hale (Mark) Raiche of Eden Prairie, MN, Richard Phillips (Denise) Hale III of Kettering, OH and Stephen Castles Hale of Gilbert, AZ, grandchildren Stephanie Agnew (Patrick) Daly of Minneapolis, MN, Jonathan Andrew Hale of Kettering, OH, Cierra Marie Hale, Richard Garrison Hale, and Blaise Castles Hale of Gilbert, AZ, sister Charlene Hale Roberson of Old Greenwich, CT and niece Kathryn Grace Roberson of New York, NY.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Community Chapel, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, OH 45050 with a visitation to follow. Rev. Karen Fleming and Rev. Tim Doty will be officiating.
