Richard Lee Walker

WALKER, Richard Lee, 91, of Centerville, OH (formerly of Port Clinton, OH), passed away on August 5, 2024. Richard, known by friends and colleagues as “Chief,” was drafted into active duty in the United States Army for two years during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Ohio Army National Guard after another 34. He was later employed by Walker Funeral Home until he was 80 years old. Richard was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Port Clinton, also serving on the church council for several years. He lived in Port Clinton, Ohio for over 50 years and still considered that ‘home’. 

He enjoyed fishing, reading, traveling around the country with his wife, history, and gardening; vegetables were his specialty. With a dry sense of humor and a wry grin, the man known to his grandson and great grandchildren as “Grandpap” had a story and a joke to fit any situation. Later in life, sitting in the shade watching his great grandchildren run and play outside brought him great joy. Despite being entertainingly renowned for rarely smiling in photos, Grandpap would always have a soft smile on his face watching his great grandchildren playing and rough housing. A content countenance that made it clear he was satisfied with the life he lived. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son-in-law.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Dorothy; daughter, Debra Jones of West Chester; grandson, Mike (Maria) Jones; great grandchildren, Logan, Julia, Elise, Caleb, Miles and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. A gathering of friends will be held Saturday August 17, 2024 from 10:00am-11:00am at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Road, Kettering, OH. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the Centerville Citizen’s Police Academy 155 W.
