Rita H. Vlahos

VLAHOS, Rita, age 97, of Dayton, passed away October 20, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, who passed away in 1988. Rita is survived by her son, Koste and his wife, Ginny; sister, Joanne Spreng, her husband Bob, their children and other nieces and nephews. She was involved in many civic activities in the Dayton area for more than 50 years. Among the more notable were the Dayton Philharmonic Association, the Dayton Opera Guild and the Oakwood Kiwanis. She was also one of the co-founders of the TWIGS, along with Mrs. Elsie Mead in 1965. Since its founding, literally hundreds of women in the Dayton area have contributed, through small groups or "Twigs," their time and efforts to benefit Children's Medical Center. The hospital has received well over $6, 000, 000. In 1977, Rita was nominated and elected to the "Top Ten Women of Dayton." Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Routsong Funeral Home, 81 N. Main St., in Centerville. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:00 AM at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Woodland Mausoleum.
