POTTER, Robert A. Sr., age 82, died peacefully at Otterbein Lebanon on Sunday, December 22. He was the son of the late Chester A. Potter and the late Edith (Pierson) Potter Backus of Dayton, Ohio. Bob graduated from Patterson Co-Operative High School in 1949. Upon graduation he was accepted into a toolmaker apprenticeship program at the National Cash Register Company, proudly earning his journeyman status four years later. Bob worked as toolmaker and then as a tool inspector. In 1968 he became an aide to the Assistant Vice President for Manufacturing. He returned to the factory in 1973 and continued his career as a Quality Control and Quality Assurance engineer, retiring in 1993 after 46 years.
Bob married Patricia Herbert in September 1950 and they celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year. They resided in West Carrollton, OH for 29 years before moving to Waynesville, OH in 1993. In Waynesville Bob served as a member and then president of the Waynesville Village Council. He also was a very active member and president of the Lions Club; he could be found during every Sauerkraut Festival in the Fried Mushroom booth. Bob's interests included running, biking, swimming, ping pong, working on his cars, gardening and socializing. Bob loved to talk with people. He was a Master Mason for over 60 years and a member of the Scottish Rite.
Bob is survived by his wife, Pat, and their two children: Robert A. Potter, Jr. and his wife, Patricia Ades Potter, of Rochester. MA; and Rebecca Ann (Potter) Page and her husband, William Silas Page, of Springboro, OH. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Lindsay, Kendall, Chet, Stephie, and Kimi, his four great grandchildren, Safiye, Kennedy, Ibrahim and Teagan, and two nephews David and Timothy Potter.
Bob's family will receive friends on Thursday, December 26 from 5-7:00 pm at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 by Waynesville Lodge 163, F.&A.M. The funeral will take place at 10 am on Friday, December 27 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Otterbein-Lebanon Retirement Community, 585 Ohio 741, Lebanon, OH 45036 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 31 W. Whipp Rd., Centerville, OH 45459.
