, age 88, of Centerville, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2002. He attended Miami University in Oxford, OH, and received his electrical engineering degree from the University of Cincinnati. Robert began his career with the Dayton Power and Light Company in 1933 as a co-op engineer. After moving from planning engineer to chief engineer of system planning, he was named chief engineer in 1964. He was elected as a Vice President in 1966 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1968. In 1970, he was named executive vice president, and in 1971 was named President and Chief Executive Officer from 1975 until 1978. He served as Chairman of the Board until 1982 and as a member of the Board until his retirement in 1984. In 1982, he was honored for outstanding service to DP&L by the naming of the Killen Electric Generating Station. The association of the Killen family with DP&L spans three generations. In addition to his efforts for DP&L, Mr. Killen was an active participant in industry affairs through organizations, such as the Ohio Electric Utility Institute and the Edison Electric Institute. He also served on the Board of Directors of Winters Bank, Chamber of Commerce, Wright State University Foundation, United Appeal, the Kettering Medical Center Development Fund, and the Mayor's Council for Economic Development. He attended Fairhaven Church for over twenty years. Preceded in death by sister, Elizabeth Marousek. Survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Currence of Centerville; Constance (Charles) Smith of Little Rock, AR; two sons, Timothy (Lois) Killen of Orinda, CA; Calvin (Nancy) Killen of Philadelphia, PA; along with 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, at the Routsong Funeral Home 81 N. Main St. Centerville with Mr. Dean Hough officiating. Family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Friday at the funeral home. Burial in Centerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to, Concordant Publishing Concern, 15570 Knochaven Rd. Santa Clarita, CA 91350-2799.
