Kettering

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Lee Gantt, who departed this life on April 4, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on November 22, 1935, Robert lived a full and vibrant life, touched by the love of family and friends. He resided in Dayton, Ohio, but his roots ran deep in Vandalia, where he lived and owned and operated the beloved Imperial Barber Shop for almost 50 years.

A graduate of Versailles High School, Class of 1956, Robert cherished his education and the friendships he forged during those formative years. His involvement in the Vandalia Optimist Club demonstrated a commitment to his community, leaving a lasting legacy of service and kindness.

Known for his sharp wit and dry sense of humor, Robert brought joy to those around him, particularly during trivia nights at 10 Wilmington Place. His passion for historical fiction, especially the works of Tom Clancy, fueled countless conversations and provided a window into his love for stories that spanned time and experience. An avid golfer, he enjoyed many sunny days on the course at Castle Hills, while his loyalty to Notre Dame football and the Cleveland Browns showcased his unwavering spirit and dedication to his teams.

Robert’s life was marked with love for his family, love for his craft, and love for the simple pleasures found in everyday moments. He found joy in the laughter of his grandchildren, and his family will forever hold his memory dear in their hearts.

As we reflect on Robert's life, we celebrate a man who lived with dignity, love, and an indomitable spirit, leaving behind a tapestry of memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.

Robert was preceded in death by his devoted wife Virginia (Ginny), his parents Samuel (Murray) and Ethel (Hess) Gantt, as well as his siblings Richard, Dave, Alice (Joan) Clack, and Herbert (Gene). He is survived by his son Gregory (Amy) Gantt of Oakwood, along with his cherished grandchildren, Michael and Alison of Kettering. Robert's family also includes beloved relatives Jack, Frank, Bill, Miriam (Doug) Minnich, Arlene (Earl) Manning, John (Scott Didier), Peggy Brumbaugh, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory forward.

Visitation will be held at Routsong Funeral Home in Kettering, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., on April 14, 2025, at 4:00 PM, allowing friends and family to come together in remembrance, to share stories, and honor the legacy of a remarkable man. Reception to follow.
