Robert Gilbert

GILBERT, Robert John, born July 27, 1926, son of Rose Ellen Brinkley and Jessie J. Gilbert in Farmsville, OH, died on January 29, 2015 in Kobacker House Hospice, in the loving care of his family. Bob was a graduate of Johnsville-New Lebanon (Dixie) High School. Loving husband, father, grandfather and proud great-grandfather. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Suzanne Sotherland; mother, Rose; father, Jesse; brothers, Conrad Jesse Gilbert of Columbus, Donald Frank Gilbert of West Alexander, and Dixon H. Gilbert of West Carrollton, OH. He is survived by his daughter, Robin Gilbert of Columbus, OH; son, Kevin (Janis) Gilbert of Lexington, KY; granddaughter, Haley (Ryan) Lawson and great-granddaughter, Vera Kate Lawson of Paris, KY; sister-in-laws, Betty Robinson and Sally Gilbert; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great- grandnieces, great-grandnephews, cousins and dear friends. Bob started his professional life as the publicity and advertising director for the Dayton RKO theaters (Keith's Colonial and State) in the 1940's. He served as Protocol Officer at Headquarters Air Force Logistics Command, WPAFB from 1951 until retirement in May of 1976. He was Chief of Protocol at HQ AFLC at the time of his wife Suzanna were co-owners of Bottleworks Antiques in Westerville, OH for 30 years. His prayer was "Let me live my life in such a way that people will miss me when I am gone rather than being happy I have left." This world is a better place because he was here and much sadder one now that he is gone. We love you very much dad and will miss you every day. A memorial celebration will be held 1:00pm on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Miami Cemetery Chapel in Waynesville, OH. Family will greet friends following the service at the Mary L. Cook Public Library, 381 Old Stage Rd. Waynesville, OH. Arrangements by Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd. Kettering. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Humane Society or the Mary L. Cook Public Library, 381 Old Stage Rd. Waynesville, OH 45068.
