Robert Monroe Pool

POOL, Robert M., passed away on August 11, 2011, he was born January 28, 1915. A native Daytonian, son of late John G. and Blanche Monroe Pool. Robert graduated as president of Oakwood High School's Class of 1933. He held a Bachelor's Degree from Vanderbilt University and Master's Degree from Ohio State University. He served on the faculties of Oakwood High School, Ohio State University, University of Tennessee. Chaired Accounting Instruction at Sinclair College from 1950 to 1957, creating the first Work-Study-Co-op Program in the U.S. in a two-year college. Robert established a Cost Accounting System for Airports for the U.S. Civil Aeronautics Administration. He operated his own Public Accounting firm from 1947 to 1990 and owned and operated the Dayton dealership for Studebaker automobiles from 1959 to 1964. Robert was selected as Sertoman of the Year for outstanding service by Dayton Club and Southwest Ohio District of Sertoma. He was awarded a life membership in Sertoma International. Robert served on the Executive Board of the Miami Valley Council, Boy Scouts of America, for 20 years. He served as volunteer and member of Board of Trustees of Building Bridges, Inc.; a volunteer instructor in the Adult Basic Education program of the Dayton Board of Education; a volunteer advisor to the Model UN and as a member of the Curriculum Committee for the Institute for Learning at the University of Dayton. Robert was instrumental in creating the Oakwood High School Alumni Association and served as chairman. He was entered into the Sam Andrews Educational Hall of Honor in Sept. 1999 and received the Distinquished Alumni Award in 2011. Robert was a member of Beta Alpha Psi Honorary Accounting Fraternity, Sertoma Club of Dayton, Montgomery County Historical Society, Oakwood Historical Society, Dayton Council on World Affairs, Studebaker Drivers' Club, Lamba Tau Sigma Fraternity of Sinclair College, Wright Bros. Packard Club, and Carillon Historical Park. Survived by sister, Louise and brother-in-law, Payson Langley of Bedford, New Hampshire, 3 nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his brother, John G. Pool, Jr. and niece, Wendy Pool. The family will greet friends from 4:00-6:00pm on Monday, September 19, 2011 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering 45429. A memorial service will be held at 5:00pm that evening also at the funeral home.
