Robert Vail Burnett Sr.

age 83, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2003. Mr. Burnett was a native Daytonian, born on August 27, 1920, at Miami Valley Hospital. He is a 1939, graduate of Oakwood High School; attended Staunton Military Academy and a graduate of Miami University (Oxford). Mr. Burnett is a member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church and is a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army (3Oth. A.D.G.) from 1942-1945. He was employed at WPAFB from 1950-1977, involving many highly confidential airplane projects, source selection, budget and cost analysis. One such project, which he headed, was the C-141 “Star- Lifter.” Mr. Burnett’s interests included all aspects of aviation, aerospace and their progressive evolution, applications and history, world affairs, photography and family genealogy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry W. Burnett, Sr., M.D. and Elizabeth Corwin Vail-Burnett, R.N. and brother, Harry W. Burnett, Jr., M.D. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Winifred; 3 sons, Robert, Jr., William and Richard and his 3 nieces, Linda Burnett-Perry, Carol Burnett and Betsy Burnett-Thomas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 14, 2003, at the Woodland Mausoleum Chapel, 118 Woodland Ave., Dayton with Rev. Dr. Robert Wade officiating. The family will greet friends from 10-11:00 AM, and Mr. Burnett will be buried at Woodland Cemetery following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a school, university or a community enriching organization in Mr. Burnett’s memory. The Burnett family wishes to extend praises to all the medical professional and support staff of the Kettering Medical Center, Bethany Rehabilitation Center and Hospice of Dayton for their outstanding care and sensitivity.
