SCOTT, Robert W., of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Moline, Illinois, passed away on March 3, 2019.
Bob is preceded in death by his daughter; Robin Sue, grandson; Jesse Springfield, granddaughter; Andrea Hope, and his loving wife of 62 years, Betty Anne.
Robert (Bob) Scott was born in Wayland, Iowa on August 12, 1926, to Robert and Hazel Scott. His family moved to Moline, Illinois when he was an infant. He attended Moline public schools.
At age 17, in 1943, Bob joined the United States Army Air Force (9th Air Force, 354th Fighter Group). His training included pilot’s training and aircraft capacity training. His group sailed to Europe and had assignments at Erlangen and, later, Fritzlar air bases. He returned home in March of 1946.
After military service Bob attended Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, until an injury from a fall resulted in his return to Moline.
After he returned to Moline, he met Betty Allison. They married on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1949. Bob and Betty were married 62 years, until Betty’s passing in 2012. He and Betty had five children, who have always known his steadfast love for them, and always observed his devotion to Betty.
Bob worked at the Rock Island Arsenal, operating air compressor machines. He retired from the Arsenal in 1988. After retiring, he was active many years with weekly visitation of homebound and nursing home residents, along with Betty, through their church, Bethany Baptist, of Moline. Bob and Betty were long-time supporters of Life in Messiah International and hosted Fellow-Heirs monthly meetings in Moline in support of the then Chicago based LIMI.
In January 2014 Bob went to live with his daughter, Marcia, in Dayton, Ohio. He lived with Marcia until his passing.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Marcia Scott (Dayton, Ohio), Susie Bond (Rock Island, Illinois), and Barbie Scott (Portland, Oregon), his sons, Steven Scott (Phoenix, Arizona) and Col. Richard Scott (Dandridge, TN), seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
