COOK, Roger Henry M.D., age 92, of Washington Township, passed away on June 15, 2021. Roger was born on March 15, 1929 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Anthony and Sara Cook. He was a graduate of University of Cincinnati College of Medicine class of 1955. Roger grew up in Cincinnati during the Great Depression with 2 brothers, 3 adopted siblings, his aunt, and grandfather. He worked his way through college and medical school.
He proudly served two years in the US Navy and six years with the Naval Reserves after his medical internship. After his radiology residency he did a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. Roger then spent his professional career and raised his family in Dayton, OH. He was very active in the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and Montgomery County Medical Society. Roger achieved fellowship status with the American College of Radiology (ACR), one of the highest honors the ACR can bestow on a member who has demonstrated a history of service to the College, organized radiology, teaching, and/or research.
Roger spent much of his retirement years perfecting his golf swing, traveling around the world with his beloved wife and as an active parishioner and lector at Holy Angels Parish.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Beverly (Schmitz); and one son, Matthew H. Cook. Roger is survived by: daughters, Deborah (Greg) Dowling, Christine Ann Cook; sons, John R. Cook, Robert M. Cook M.D., and Andrew P. (Susan) Cook, M.D.; three grandchildren, Adam Cook, Anthony (Jennifer) Cook, and Lauren (Jordan) Huizenga; great-grandchildren, Jackson J. Cook, Charlotte M. Huizenga; sisters-in-law, Patricia Schmitz and Mary Rohr; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on July 6, at Holy Angels Parish, 1322 Brown St., Dayton, OH 45409, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Fond memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.routsong.com.
