age 83 of Miamisburg passed away Friday, January 7, 2005 at Sycamore Glen Health Center, Miamisburg. As a student at Ohio State University, Ronald was a track and field Varsity '0' pole vaulter, member of Phi Eta Sigma and Texnikoi honorary societies, and was president of the Independent Men's Association. A 1942 Engineering/Physics graduate of OSU, Ronald's 38 year military and civil service career included receiving the Army Commendation Medal for his work on the Manhattan Project advisory committee, and receipt of the Air Force Commendation Medal and Meritorious Civilian Service Award for management of satellite communications electromagnetic warfare and R &D programs at the Air Force Avionics Lab at Wright- Patterson AFB, from which he retired in 1980. Ronald was the Air Force steering committee representative for the Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System, evaluated low frequency LORAN polar navigation systems and participated with Gen. Wray's team to evaluate European sources for early NATO/ AGARD projects. He was president of NAECON and a career-Iong member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Ronald was one of Christ United Methodist Church's earliest members, where he served many years as an usher and sound system manager and was an active member of the church softball team and Boy Scout troop leader. His love of sports included 20 years as a USTA professional tennis umpire, and he enthusiastically explored his roots as a member of the Franklin County Genealogical & Historical Society. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Galen H. and Gertrude Stimmel and son, Thomas R. Stimmel; He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Dorothy Stimmel; 2 sons, Jerry (Lucy) Stimmel of Kirkland, WA and David (Deb) Stimmel of Hickory, NC; 1 daughter, Sandra Henderson, of Pleasanton, CA; and 4 grandchildren, Ron Stimmel II, Abby, Ryan, and Grant Stimmel. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. Private burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Columbus, OH. Family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
