SCHINDLER, Rose Mary Ahern, age 97, of Dayton, OH, formerly of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025. Rose Mary was born on October 19, 1927, to the late James and Valeria Ahern, in Urbana, OH. She grew up in Urbana and graduated from St. Mary’s School, before starting work at Wright-Patterson AFB. During her time at Wright-Patt she met Donald Danielson, her husband of 35 years. She was a longtime member of Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, where she and Don frequently volunteered. Rose Mary was a very creative and talented artist and was a master of numerous mediums, including, sewing, painting, drawing, and creating stained glass. She frequently shared these talents with family, friends and especially the church. She helped design the entryway stained glass window at Queen of Martyrs. After Don’s passing in 1986, she married Roland “Rollie” Schindler, a fellow church parishioner. Their later life was spent in Port Charlotte, FL, where they enjoyed extensive traveling and volunteering at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Rose Mary’s kind and strong character will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald Danielson; second husband, Roland Schindler; son, Donald “Donnie” Danielson; siblings, Tom Ahern, Loretta Cashin, William “Bill” Ahern, Lucille Keating, Sr. Valeria RSM “Delores” Ahern, Mary Lou Smith-Evilsizor, twin sister Mary Margaret “Margy” Cleary, and John Ahern.
Rose Mary is survived by her granddaughter, Makayla Cook; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, 4144 Cedar Ridge Rd. Dayton, OH 45414. The family will greet friends starting at 10am at the church. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton in recognition of the exceptional care they gave to Rose Mary.
