Ruth Kershner Vollbrecht

age 89, of Kettering, formerly of Oakwood, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2003. She was born June 4, 1914, in Columbus Grove, OH, to the Rev. Watson Gross and Ethel Watt Kershner. Ruth was a graduate of Defiance College with post graduate studies at Ohio State University and the University of Dayton. She was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy W.A.V.E.S. during World War II. Ruth retired as a kindergarten teacher from J.E. Prass School and she also established Arjay Silver Appraisal Company. She was a member of Chapter Z, P.E.O., Lutheran Church of Our Savior, a volunteer for Planned Parenthood Book Fair and head of the library at One Lincoln Park. Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John J. Vollbrecht; her parents and stepmother, Auda (Harrod) Kershner; 2 brothers and 1 sister. Beloved by 3 sons, John W. and his wife, Kathleen of Herndon, VA, Robert M. of Hamilton and Thomas D. and his wife, Linda of Kettering; grandchildren, Cynthia Marie and Christina Lynn of VA, Mary and her husband, Israel Tilk of Cincinnati and Andrea and her husband, Trever Gallagher of Seattle, WA; great grandson, Andrew of Seattle, WA; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 155 E. Thruston Blvd., Oakwood, with Rev. Gary Eichhorn officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5-8:00 PM, Tuesday, at Routsong Funeral Home, 6 Oakwood Ave., Oakwood and also at the church a half hour prior to the service.
