Sally D. Eichelberger

EICHELBERGER, Sally D., passed away on July 7, 2006, the heart of Sally D. Eichelberger failed its earthly function and carried her back to her beloved husband Jack who had preceded her in death. Her life’s journey began in Ireland, and she carried through life the gift of Irish laughter, the burden of Irish temper, the memory of old stories, the penchant for creating new stories, and the common touch that binds together all human beings. She was a proud and devoted member of the Dayton Women’s Club and of the Dayton Country Club. The annual parties she and her husband gave and which were attended by a large percentage of the lawyers, judges and law enforcement personnel of Montgomery County are the stuff of legend. No one who attended those affairs came away without an arsenal of anecdotes guaranteed to trigger twice-told tales and bouts of repeated laughter. Jack was Falstaff; Sally was Mistress Quickly; and their guests were those old acquaintances who into their last years on earth would shake their heads in nostalgic recollection of hearing the chimes at midnight. Jack Eichelberger was a larger-than-life Dayton lawyer and real estate entrepreneur. He and Sally enjoyed homes and gregarious lifestyles in Dayton, Fort Lauderdale and at the edge of Greenwich Village in New York. Dayton was at the core of their lives, and they have left it a legacy of memories and of charitable intent that will benefit the community in years to come. Visitation for Sally will be held Thursday, July 13, 2006, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Routsong Funeral Home, Oakwood at Brown and Irving. Private burial in Woodland Cemetery. Memorial services will be held Friday, the 14th at 10:00 AM in the chapel at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, 33 W. Dixon Ave., Dayton, OH 45419.
