LAGER, Sharon Ruth, age 80, of Washington D.C., passed away at GW University Hospital on Friday, August 4, 2023. Sharon was born on August 15, 1942 in Dayton, OH and upon graduating from Fairview High School, was a flight attendant for TWA for 38 years and traveled the world. She lived in California for much of her career, but spent the last 30 years in Washington D.C. After retirement she loved working at Trader Joe’s in D.C. Sharon was a devout Catholic and a beloved member of the Catholic community in D.C., with St. Ann’s as her primary parish. In addition to family, she was loved by many friends, extended family, and co-workers that were all touched by her humor, generosity, and thoughtfulness. Fiercely independent to the end, she loved old movies, potato chips, and Saint Padre Pio.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father, Vernon; her mother, Ruth; and brother, John. She is survived by her brother, Jeff (Debbie) Lager; sister, Catherine (Kamran Nafissi) Lager; nieces, Jennifer and Andrea (Jacob) Gebelle and many close cousins.
There will be a memorial mass at St. Ann’s Church, 4001 Yuma St. NW, Washington, DC 20016 on August 27 at 11am. Live stream will be available from the churches livestream (stanndc.org/live). Internment with family and close friends will be at Woodland Cemetery on 9/1 at 10:30 AM. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be made at www.routsong.com.
