MEMORIES OF SHIRLEY FROM HER FRIEND GLORIA:
I met Shirley one cold night at my then, almost boyfriend's apartment. She came flying thru the door (Shirley Style) bearing excellent food and champaign. NYC's finest deli she announced The guys were thrilled 10 minutes later Shirley and I were laughing by the end of the night we were friends by the end of that month we officially were roommates.
Shirley made me laugh. She fed me food I could never afford. She held my hand when said boyfriend and I broke up; I held her boyfriend's hands when they broke up! She brought up our first Christmas tree nice work for a Jewish girl she said after we sat back and looked at all the crooked decorations. She made me an honorary granddaughter of Gramma Holley for without fail would show up at our 3 floor walk up with Jamaican Roasted Chicken & black eyed pea's and greens. Best food I ever had.
One Christmas, we took an hour to bundle up only to run half a block for Christmas dinner we were always laughing. She lit up my life.
Christmas of '85 she got engaged to Mikey in my bathroom he'd gotten lost that New Years Eve coming in from Ohio he forgot to dial 212 (OH famous Mikey area code) and we fretted about him for well in Shirley time hr. Next day, wallah! An engagement ring.
I was her maid of honor her cats slept on my head she had Pauline I was honored by being her Fairy Godmother.
She came to New York she loved to shop She said everyone needed a spring jacket ïŠ She calls me to laugh. She loved Mikey 'Good Cook' she'd say and smack her lips. She loved her kids her parties, her pool her life.
She made me happy she was my friend. There must be a party in heaven she didn't want to miss save me a seat ole friend
Xoxo Gloria
