DUNFORD, Sidney G. Jr., age, 76 of Kettering, passed away, October 5, 2002 at Heartland of Centerville. Born June 5, 1926 in Dayton, the third child of the late Sidney G. and Elizabeth B. (Colby) Dunford. Preceded in death by brother, Marvin and sister, Louise Wolfe. Survived by nephew, 'Ned' Jr. and Judi Dunford and their son, 'Sam' III and Mary Dunford, all of Dayton. Survived by niece, Charli Dunford of Fairborn and her son, Adam and Jeri McNamara of Toledo, OH. Preceded in death by wife, LaRetta (Swigart) in 1968. Survived by sons, Joel and Colleen Dunford of San Bernadino, California and Jim and Cathy Dunford of Huber Heights and grandson, Matthew and Angela Dunford and granddaughter, Katie Dunford. Survived by sister-in-law, LaVonna and Hugh Schaefer of Lebanon. Preceded in death by wife, Patsy (Ballinger), in 1999. Survived by son, Jim Murray of Reardon, Ohio and daughter Carol and David Ludwig of Dayton and grandson, Harrison Ludwig. Survived by sister-in-law, Nancy Williams of Kettering and brother-in-law, Charles Ballinger of Dayton. The family wishes to express a special thanks to his loving friend and confidant, Pat Coy of Centerville. A Kiser High School graduate 1944; Sidney served honorably with the 9th Armored Division, as Staff Sergeant, at the Remagen Bridgehead, Germany, WWII. Retired 1985 from the Inland Manufacturing Division of General Motors, Sidney held numerous patents and received the 'Safety Award for Engineering Excellence' from the U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 1978 in Washington D.C. for his 'extraordinary contributions' for the design of passive restraint devices (air bags) . Past president and board member of the Walnut Grove Country Club. Active in many sports his whole life, he loved scuba diving and warm climates, which is shown through his gift for water color painting and 'lost wax' art. Visitation Friday, October 11, at 4:00 PM. at the Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. We invite you to share your memories at the memorial service at 7:00 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Kenny Shiveley, Dayton Christian Union Church, officiating. Private family inurnment Mt.
