Stephen George Dizek, Sr.

DIZEK, Stephen G., age 78, of Kettering, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2016. He was born on September 21, 1937 in Holyoke, MA to Steven and Marion Dizek. Stephen graduated from the University of Massachusetts and went on to obtain graduate degrees from the Air Force Institute of Technology, the Naval War College, and the University of Southern California. He retired as a Lt. Col. in the United States Air Force after 22 years of service and continued for several years as a defense consultant in systems engineering and reliability. Stephen's passions were his grandchildren, woodworking, volunteering as a math tutor, for 13 years, to 7th graders at Kettering Middle School, the Boston Red Sox/Celtics, being a UD Basketball season ticket holder, and the daily crossword puzzle. Stephen is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Jo; children, Ellen (Gary) Junker, Steve (Kathy) Dizek Jr., and Diane (Quinton) Dressel; and grandchildren, Alyssa, Jacob, Rob, Matthew, and Jenny; sister, Rosalie Loomis; and several nieces and nephews. Family will greet friends from 5:00-8:00pm Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100 E. Stroop Rd., Kettering. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Friday, February 19, 2016 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton or any charity of your choice.
