SMITH, Steven M. “Sarge”, age 64, of Riverside, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. Steve was born in Dayton, OH to Paul and Zelma (Slonaker) Smith on November 24, 1954.
After high school Steve served his country in the Marines, and was deployed to Vietnam, where he earned the nickname “Sarge”. After his retirement Steven remained proud of his military service, and stayed very active within the veteran community by joining VFW Post 657 and VVA Post 97. He was a member of Moose Lodge in Beavercreek, the Eagles club, a lifetime member of Troy Fish & Game Club, and St. Helen Catholic Church. Steven worked as a truck driver for the USPS, but when he wasn’t driving he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his big heart, sense of humor, and love for all his family.
Steven is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Rebecca Smith; children, Stephanie (Johnathan) Rench, Steven M. (Amy Parker) Smith; grandchildren, Ethan Smith, Madelyn Smith, Trenton Smith, and Raegan Smith; sisters, Bonnie Ellis, Linda Ramoo; best friend, Tim Donahue; and furry friends, Brody the German Shepard, Sarge the Lab, and Baxter the Pug.
Funeral Service will take place at Routsong Funeral Home, 2100E. Stroop Rd., Kettering 45429, on Tuesday, March 26 at 6pm, with a visitation beginning 2 hours prior at 4pm. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.routsong.com.
